This song was mainly passed by ear and, as such, there are a number of common incorrect lyrics out there:

    • On the hill was a pine stump, not a pine day
    • This seems to have originated with "Paris to Kiev".
    • Rusyn does not have the word "тай" so it's unlikely to have been the correct word
    • This mistake seems to have originated with "Paris to Kiev", who transcribed it as "дещок" (which does not appear to be a word in any Ukrainian dialect) from an unknown source, which was then further misheard as "дощик" by Korinya and Tyt i tam.
    • "I will be John's" because "I will love John's" doesn't make sense - it would need to be "люблю Іванка" to mean "I will love John"
    • This seems to have originated with "Paris to Kiev".
