Історія[ ]
The story begins with a Polish play called "Karpaccy górale" (Карпатські горяни) published in 1843. This play included an original song "Czerwony Pas" (Червоний пояс) by Józef Korzeniowski and Karol Kurpiński. In 1848, Микола Устиянович published a loose translation of the play into Ruthenian ("Верховинці Бескидів"), which included "Верховинець", his loose translation of "Czerwony Pas".
Both "Czerwony Pas" and "Верховино" became popular folk songs in the Polish and Ruthenian regions of the Karpaty, respectively. Neither originally included the kolomyjka refrains (e.g. "Ой нема то краю краю...") but both later picked them up as part of their folk song development.
Gradually the song dropped from 9 verses to the 2-3 which are commonly sung today.
